Happy Monday, Shanghai. News reaches us via City Weekend that the hotly anticipated In-N-Out pop up that was supposed to happen this Wednesday at a random little café in Xuhui has been cancelled. Not happening.
Event organizers have apparently gotten cold feet because they were worried about how many people were going to show up, creating a potential disturbance that would ire the neighbors and authorities.
Given that they were only planning on serving 200 burgers, we're imagining they'd have to deal with a number of disgruntled burger-less punters too.
In-N-Out's manager of Special Foreign Events, a Mr Eric Billings, has reportedly said that they want to "protect the legitimacy of an actual pop-up" (???), adding that the event was only supposed to be announced two days prior but was leaked without authorization.
Basically, it's a right royal balls up. Luckily for fans, In-N-Out has hinted they'll be back with another pop-up next year, hopefully with a more suitable venue next time around.
UPDATE (March 20, 1.15pm CST): That's has been informed by a member of the public that the pop-up was moved two days forward to today at the same location, apparently on the down-low.
Chances are by now that they've already sold out, as there were long lines. Touché, In-N-Out, a classic bait 'n' switch.
